SAMS has an extremely strong School-Home Partnership. This partnership extends beyond the classroom in several ways.
First and foremost, the School-Home Partnership influence is in the affective domain. The affective domain addresses issues not ordinarily covered in classrooms but nonetheless essential to the development of a middle school student. Skill building activities occur that help our students build healthy relationships with peers, volunteers, the Host Nation community and faculty. Activities in the affective domain include an intramural program in seminar that focuses on team sports, Host Nation assemblies and activities, club meetings of all types to include Student Council and National Junior Honor Society, a Club Day where students freely select a skill to learn, peer mediator meetings, honor roll assemblies, musical events and more. This holistic approach to education is essential to developing well-rounded citizens.
Reading Buddies Program. Ms. Stone’s 8th grade students have partnered with selected SAES K-2 classes in an effort to promote current reading goals. Students enjoy the camaraderie while implementing good reading strategies.

The BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers) volunteered this summer to move classroom furniture and help set-up a two new lab rooms. The total number of hours on this project was nearly 100! SAMS has learned they can depend upon this group of dedicated young soldiers.

| On Oct 18th SAMS students had a tremendous music education opportunity through the live performance of the 8th Army Band. The band performed many different styles of music; salsa, Dixieland, movie sound track, military marches, and regular concert band repertories. Throughout the concert, students learned different groups of instruments produce its unique sound, harmony and rhythm. But this was no ordinary ¡°sit and listen¡± concert. Students and faculty were invited to join in. Several students got up to dance salsa with the lead singer, as did AP Samia Mounts. The audience clapped along with the infectious rhythms of the Dixieland combo, and the show came to a rousing conclusion with a performance of the various service songs, everyone standing and cheering for their favorite. The enthusiastic applause at the end showed how much everyone enjoyed the performance. |

The below listed committees need your support!
-
Volunteer Support. Volunteers are needed to assist with our after-school tutoring program, come into the classroom to support our school improvement process in reading, meet with selected students during seminar and provide academic support and assist with off-base study trips. The tutoring program meets from 2:45-3:30 in the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In support of our school improvement program, the first thirty minutes of each seminar is dedicated to sustained silent reading (SSR). However, modeling reading of appropriate age-level stories aloud enhances comprehension. We are always looking for volunteer guest readers! Volunteers also meet with selected students during seminar in specific academic areas to encourage appropriate study habits and provide remediation as needed.
-
PTO Support. The faculty maintains an extremely strong relationship with the PTO which is composed entirely of volunteers. This partnership is accomplished in part by the faculty electing a representative to the PTO Executive Board. Additional support is given by the faculty representative position. These representatives along with administration share the educational mission and other essential subject issues or team specific programs so that the PTO is appropriately engaged.
-
Publicity.
This committee ensures that the mission of the PTO and SAC is distributed to all stakeholders. The school’s newsletter and marquee reserves a space for the PTO and SAC. This committee also obtains time on Channel 3 and space on the marquees on Main and South Post. On occasion, such as our opening of the year picnic the Publicity Committee distributes flyers to On-Post housing and Hannam Village Housing!
-
Mentoring.
Another way to address the affective domain needs of our middle
school students is through our one-on-one mentoring program. Community
members can provide music, academic and athletic support to interested
students by appointment through the administration or guidance office.
-
Directed Activities.
A wide variety of activities is scheduled during seminar on the "B" day schedule by this committee. A school appointed
representative works with the military command and various Host
Nation groups to schedule activities that support the curriculum
such as 8th Army Band performances, Host Nation student exchanges,
meetings with our counselors and/or ASACS counselors, Host Nation
music and dance performances and more.
