Language Arts 6

Textbook: Integrated Language Arts/Reading Program, Scholastic, Inc. Literacy Place K-6

Sixth Graders have an ever-ready set of strategies and literacy tools, with which to build a future. They choose when and how to use those and have the confidence to implement them independently. They enjoy initiating and leading projects with their new literacy program. They read across a variety of texts and begin to select - often create - the right genre, medium, or format for their ideas they want to convey. They develop an appreciation for the complexity of language and put it to work to achieve both playful and purposeful goals. The student use their reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing skills to understand that individuals are composites of their experiences; learn that problem solving is a key survival skill; discover that teamwork can make a business successful; explore and explain their worlds; be critical analysts when reading and viewing the media; and become active participants in the democratic process.
