Welcome to Seoul American Middle School (SAMS). On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to our school website. We hope you find it helpful, as well as informative. SAMS has an excellent reputation and is a high performing school. We are recognized as an accredited institution with the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI). We are committed to Continous School Improvement (CSI).
My vision for SAMS is that all students demonstrate consistent growth and highest achievement. My focus goals for SY 09-10 address Student Achievement and Safety. As noted in the DoDEA Community Strategic Plan (CSP) Goal 1,
http://www.dodea.edu/pubs/csp2008.cfm, we will ensure that all students will meet or exceed challenging standards in academic content, so that they are prepared for continuous learning. Additionally, as noted in Goal 2, we will facilitate a safe environment conducive to optimum student achievement. At SAMS, we are standards-based, data-driven and student-focused.
To meet student needs, SAMS has an extensive selection of courses, to include Algebra, Geometry, French, German, Korean, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish; all for high school credit on campus. The Fine Arts department includes our own string ensemble as well as art, band, chorus and drama. Furthermore, students may also select combative sports, a unique feature of SAMS, which focuses on the traditional Korean martial arts Hapkido and Taekwondo. Additionally, we feature a distinguished AVID program.
I look forward to working together as a Learning Community to increase student achievement to the highest level. The PTO, SAC, command, parent and community volunteers, staff, faculty and our students make SAMS a powerful Learning Community. As a military child, DoDDS alumni and Army Veteran, I am honored to have the opportunity to be an Instructional Leader for Team DoDEA; the organization that inspired and prepared me for success in a dynamic, global environment.
Please visit the website again soon, as we keep it updated with the latest SAMS news and information. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please share them with us, either electronically or in person.
