The Special Needs Network Website (http://mfrc.calib.com/snn/) offers Department of Defense (DoD) families with special medical and/or educational needs access to information, resources, and each other. The SNN also provides information to family service staff, care coordinators, service providers, and to DOD civilian employees.
In addition, DoDDS participates in the Child Find program. Child Find is an outreach program that actively seeks to locate and identify children and youth from birth through age twenty-one years, who may have developmental delays or educational disabilities and may be in need of special education and related services.
In all DoDDS schools, Child Find activities are done in collaboration with the local military medical organizations as well as other local agencies in the military community.
While children learn at different rates there are behaviors or lack of certain skills that may make you, as the parent, suspect that some help might be needed for your child. These behaviors or lack of skills may include:
Difficulty reading and comprehending grade level material. Difficulty staying on task and completing work. Difficulty following directions. Difficulty expressing ideas in spoken or written form. Difficulty relating to people and his/her surroundings. If you believe your child is not developing or learning in expected ways or differently than other children, Child Find may be of assistance to you. You can help your child by contacting your local DoDDS school, military hospital or clinic for more information.
